Ambassador Thompson reports that President of Mexico Porfirio Díaz and his wife Carmen Romero Rubio de Díaz are pleased that President Roosevelt has received the portrait of Díaz sent by Thompson. Thompson believes that Díaz, an admirer of Roosevelt’s, would similarly appreciate a portrait of the president in return.

Minister to the Argentine Republic Beaupre sends President Roosevelt a belt worn by “one of the most picturesque specimens of the Argentine Gaucho.” The belt, which had been in the man’s family for seventy-five years, is an excellent example of a now-vanishing culture, much like the cowboys in the American West.

The lecturn will be presented by Roosevelt to the Bruton Parish Church to hold a Bible presented by King Edward VII of England. Barney asks permission to release the photograph to the press.
