President Roosevelt sends Joel Chandler Harris his subscription for Uncle Remus’ Magazine. Roosevelt also asks if Harris can come and have dinner at the White House. Roosevelt requests that he bring Clinton Dangerfield or “any other of Uncle Remus’ people who will come,” and urges Harris to come when he can.

Ella Howard Bryan, who wrote under the pen name of Clinton Dangerfield, is a fan of President Roosevelt, although the letter only refers to “the President.” She has composed a poem entitled “The Man of Destiny,” based on the life of Roosevelt. She declares that she would not want to meet Roosevelt for fear, although she admires him. She mentions how Roosevelt has reached the heights of life, while she is “still very much on the plains.”

The Century Magazine editor Richard W. Gilder thanks President Roosevelt for his suggestion regarding Clinton Dangerfield and others. The talk in the papers about Texas history and Roosevelt interests him greatly. He encourages Roosevelt to publish something on this, and he hopes The Century will be selected as the outlet for both this and TR’s reminiscences which they have previously discussed.

Richard Watson Gilder sends a photograph of Clinton Dangerfield of Dillon, Georgia. President Roosevelt had previously inquired about Dangerfield. Gilder is pleased with the New York election results and had spent the last two or three days of the campaign on the east side of New York, New York.
