Johnston hopes Roosevelt will consent to speak and help raise the men to a higher standard of “Christian citizenship and usefulness.”

However, Lieutenant Governor of New York and Republican State Committee Chairman Timothy L. Woodruff backs the opinion of the “Committee of the One Hundred,” and favors a ticket with some Democrats. A letter to the editor, written by Courtland V. Anable, a lawyer from New York City, expresses his opinion on the nominees.
