Theodore Roosevelt writes Whitelaw Reid with the knowledge that one of Reid’s men, Royal Cortissoz, is very ill and wishes Reid might allow him to take a holiday and recover. Roosevelt heard of Cortissoz bad health through a friend and decided to write in case Reid would care to do anything about the matter.

Theodore Roosevelt writes to his sister after a trip to Trinidad. He thanks his sister for her letter and mentions writer Frederick Scott Oliver. Roosevelt is glad his sister is resting, but asks her to bring Cortizzoz and Corbins to lunch when she returns. He also discusses President Wilson and World War I.

Ambassador Reid had received earlier reports of Royal Cortissoz’s health, but Corrinne Roosevelt Robinson’s letter persuaded him to request Cortissoz be discharged from official duties for three months. He appreciates Theodore Roosevelt’s letter. Reid recently used Roosevelt’s Winning of the West in a speech. He hopes Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt is recovering.
