Theodore Roosevelt takes a “sour satisfaction” in the failure of James Garfield’s “house-climbing feat,” because he likes to know that his friends are getting old also. Roosevelt also describes hiking, boating, picnicking, and camping with his family and friends.

The postcard features two Cracker Jack Bears making Cracker Jack. One bear stands on a case of Cracker Jack stirring something in a pot while the other bear carries a bowl of popcorn. The message on the back explains that the postcard was found by Mrs. Groff in Lincoln Park, Chicago, Illinois, on August 4, 1967. Number fourteen in a series of sixteen cards that were free to anyone who mailed in ten sides from Cracker Jack boxes or ten cents in “silver or stamps.”

Theodore Roosevelt suffered an asthma attack but has recovered and is in “perfect health and spirits.” He has recently taken a walk in the country, visited a beer garden, attended an open air concert, and shot air rifles. When not studying, Roosevelt has been spending his time translating natural history, wrestling, and cooking.
