President Roosevelt asks German Ambassador Sternburg to look over some enclosed letters and asks whether it would be possible to have what Henry Lee Higginson hopes to have done, done. Higginson hopes to secure the services of Karl Muck, a German conductor, to conduct an opera or concert.

Hermann Speck von Sternburg asks President Roosevelt to consider suggestions for promoting American literature in Europe and states he is glad Karl Muck, a German conductor, has been granted leave to act as the musical director for the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Sternburg also encloses information on Germany’s problems in North Africa.

The surrounding vignettes show Alfred Hertz as a young man and as the current conductor, Enrico Caruso, “Italy’s Standing Army,” which is a group of men dressed for the theater, possibly critics, actors with props, and a prima donna too large to “fit the chairs of the period.”
