Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to James D. Phelan

President Roosevelt can testify in support of William C. Van Fleet. At the Republican National Convention in 1904, rival Edward Harriman’s men attempted to gain control of the Republican delegation from California, and Van Fleet was one of the men who stopped them. Because of this, Roosevelt is interested in what is happening in San Francisco.

Letter from J. W. Kelsey to Theodore Roosevelt

J. W. Kelsey sends Theodore Roosevelt the letters from the men referred to in his previous letter. He also mentions that pensions for Mexican-American War veterans increased to twelve dollars per month shortly after Susan M. Matthew Theall’s was raised to that amount.
