President Roosevelt is pleased that Thomas P. McLoughlin is going to build the sort of building the he has mentioned at Fort Slocum. A chapel would only see use on Sundays, but the building that McLoughlin described will benefit soldiers’s bodies and souls all the time.

President Roosevelt does not support Henry Mottet’s plan of a memorial at the Church of the Holy Communion to Roosevelt’s uncle, James King Gracie, and supporting the orthopedic doctor. Rather, Roosevelt tells Douglas Robinson he would like to give some inheritance money to Margaret Gracie Higginson Fiske. The president is glad he was able to see Robinson and his wife, Corinne Roosevelt Robinson, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Walker writes to Theodore Roosevelt on behalf of the Presbyterian Church of Wilmerding, Pennsylvania, to tell him of the congregation’s current effort to raise money to pay off its mortgage by the end of September. He asks if Roosevelt would be able to contribute any amount, as they would be greatly pleased to have his support in this endeavor. Walker includes a brief list of references who can attest to the situation and his authority to solicit funds.

Reverend John M. Schick of Washington, D.C.’s Grace Reformed Church tells Theodore Roosevelt of the coming construction of a new building to accommodate the thriving Sunday School the church runs. He invites him to visit sometime, and says that while they are not seeking funds, “if [Roosevelt wants] to stand in with the old crowd there will be an open hand just this once.” Schick additionally tells Roosevelt of the many developments in his family, all of whom are doing well.
