Roosevelt notes that the older he gets the less he cares about the actual killing, but does not want to get too sentimental. Roosevelt requests that Grinnell send him the wolf article, because he may have been confusing the wolf and the coyote.

Theodore Roosevelt gives feedback on the article by Pierce that George Bird Grinnell sent him. Roosevelt likes photographing the deer from the canoe, but feels the article crosses over into the “funny” hunting story. Roosevelt thinks the piece should be cut to half its present length.

Theodore Roosevelt tells George Bird Grinnell that the title of General A. W. Greely’s book is Three Years of Arctic Service. Roosevelt agrees with putting the moose head on the cover of the book and if Grinnell gets short of copy, Roosevelt can give him some writing. Another idea if they are short of copy is for Grinnell and Roosevelt to write a composite article on the distribution of “big game animals of temperate North America.”

A statement authored by William T. Hornaday criticizes the Sulzer bill which would allow for the sale of moose, caribou, and white mountain sheep meat in Northern Alaska. Hornaday reports that he and several prominent game conservation associations were shocked to discover that the legal sale of big game in Alaska had been occurring for some time.

William T. Hornaday is disturbed by events at home and abroad. The American Defense Society is fighting against pacifism and working hard to prevent “disloyal meetings” from taking place in New York. Hornaday is alarmed by a bill drawn up Congressman Sulzer and the Department of Agriculture, and supported by Charles Sheldon and Edward William Nelson, allowing the sale of Alaskan big game all year round.

William T. Hornaday writes that the situation with Attorney General Gregory is “intolerable” and deserving of a congressional investigation. He also encourages Theodore Roosevelt to chastise Edward William Nelson and Charles Sheldon about the proposed sale of big game in Alaska. Hornaday believes that Roosevelt’s ear will recover, as his own did in 1906.

George Bird Grinnell received Charles Sheldon’s letter discussing the amendment to the Sulzer Bill. Grinnell agrees with Sheldon’s reasons for supporting the Bill, “after the war is over there may be reasonable cooperation between residents of Alaska and game conservators elsewhere.”

Representative Humphrey plans to attend the Boone and Crockett Club’s banquet on December 20. He asks if Theodore Roosevelt plans to attend and, if so, if they could meet the following day to discuss the political situation. Humphrey recently visited California and tried to learn the public’s opinion on the presidential election.

Edward William Nelson was pleased by the note Theodore Roosevelt sent accompanying the copy of the letter that Roosevelt wrote to Charles A. Kofoid regarding coloration of antelope. Nelson agrees with Roosevelt regarding the case, and believes that Abbott Handerson Thayer’s theory is “absurdly overworked” and in error. He regrets that he was unable to be present at the recent dinner of the Boone and Crockett club where he heard the matter was discussed.
