Theodore Roosevelt tells his son Kermit that Bridges wanted some articles from Kermit about his time in Mesopotamia. Roosevelt says it is his sixtieth birthday and he has a lot of happy memories to look back on. He lists several guests he has had the past few days and criticizes President Woodrow Wilson for accepting any type of peace just to end the war.

Theodore Roosevelt writes his son Kermit to tell him about the Progressive Party convention where he spoke for two hours. He does not believe they can win the election and predicts Governor Woodrow Wilson will be victorious, with him and President William H. Taft nearly even behind. Roosevelt plans to start campaigning in September. Roosevelt says he and Mother agree that if going to Brazil to work appeals to Kermit, then he should go. He describes celebrating Ethel’s birthday.

He is not sorry that their brother Elliott’s wife Anna Hall Roosevelt had a fight with Aunt Annie. Roosevelt also reports that their brother-in-law Douglas Robinson is not as “stiff backed” as he looks.

Puck was soundly jingoistic before and during the Spanish-American War; during the foundations of imperial policymaking; and in support of the acquisition of the Canal Zone in Panama.
