President Roosevelt thanks General Low for the bottle of rum and feels that it should be kept as a memento to the Crimea and not consumed. However, he will find “some choice friend” to share it with. Low took part in the famous Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War.

The letter examines the situations in many different cities and other topics including removing Jews from Russia, revolution and revolutionaries’ tactics, a pheasant shoot, military escorts, history, travel, and Russian construction quality.
