Report on proposed Roosevelt National Park

The photo negatives of the report on the proposed establishment of Theodore Roosevelt National Park contains a wide variety of information ranging from history on the region to a description of natural resources. The report details Theodore Roosevelt, the petrified forest, and the itinerary of an examination team (which includes a senatorial committee). Report also contains a supplemental report compiled by the United States Department of Agriculture that focuses on cataloging natural resources within the proposed boundary of the park. In addition, several memorandums are included summarizing the reports’ information and conclusions.

Report of field investigation of the Badlands and Killdeer Mountains of North Dakota

The goal of the field investigation is to determine the value of the badlands and Killdeer Mountains for national park or national monument status. The report includes information on the area’s cultural and natural history and scientific demographic information. Report concludes that there is enough value for a national monument to be created with at least 750,000 acres.

This document contains some limited descriptive notes on the history and status of Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park in 1930 and in 1945. In 1945, the Forest Service land is badly overgrazed, but the Park land–including grassland and some badlands–is in good condition. There are also some limited notes on Elkhorn Ranch.

This master plan summary for Theodore Roosevelt National Park outlines the National Park Service’s plans for the Park. It outlines the historical, geological, and natural significance of the Park as the former site of Theodore Roosevelt’s Elkhorn Ranch and the home to wildlife and unique geology. The proposed changes to the Park include a boundary change in the North Unit, the acquisition of the remaining privately-owned lands, provisions for additional facilities for employees and visitors, and accessibility improvements and updates.

Wilderness proposal: Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park

In its preliminary report on the proposal to designate portions of Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park as wilderness areas, the National Park Service finds that most of the north unit of the park is suitable for wilderness designation, while the south unit is unsuitable due to existing developments, intensive visitor use, and private mineral rights interests. The report includes background on the park and the surrounding area, including physical and historical details.
