President Roosevelt received an unsigned letter from Philip Battell Stewart which he suspects is unfinished. He asks Stewart to write him about Judge Robert E. Lewis, and jokingly says that if he does not want to sign it, to write “burn this letter” instead.

President Roosevelt assures Philip Battell Stewart that it was unnecessary for him to write to William Loeb. Stewart’s testament about Kurnal Rufus Babbitt’s character is sufficient to Roosevelt. However, Roosevelt does inform Stewart that there is “practically unanimous opinion against him” from everyone besides Stewart.
