Travel diary of fourteen-year-old Theodore Roosevelt beginning in New York, sailing on the ship Russia for Liverpool and ending in Vienna as he departs for Dresden. Includes entries for Egypt, Jerusalem, and many other locations in the Middle East. Also included is an entry for “Diary in the North Eastern states in August of 1872.” Sketches, doodles, and lists, including a list of expenses, can be found. Some pages have been torn out.

Maria Longworth Storer expresses her concerns regarding the representative of the American Catholic Church at the Vatican, Francis Augustus MacNutt. Storer relays that she believes MacNutt to be a spy, stating that his actions will negatively affect proceedings in the Philippines and the American Catholic Church. Storer also discusses the “failure” of the Vatican to properly recognize Archbishop Ireland.

Because the difficulties between the International Banking Company and the Guaranty Trust Company are over, Frederick William Holls will not be in Washington to meet with President Roosevelt. Holls is about to embark on a European trip and plans to keep his “eyes and ears open” in major European cities for news. He plans to see Roosevelt at Oyster Bay upon his return from Europe.
