Judge Buffington writes to Edith Roosevelt and compares the death of Quentin Roosevelt to the death of Christ. He speaks of the meaning of “sympathy,” and Quentin’s “life work was done early and done well.” Author recalls visit to Edith Roosevelt at her home, seeing her service pin, which now has one gold star. Edith “bought that star with (her) hearts blood.”
