Whitelaw Reid writes to President Roosevelt to discuss the British and Foreign Bible Society’s Centenary Thanksgiving meeting and requests Roosevelt send him a brief message to be read at the meeting. The society is also seeking a letter from Kaiser Wilhelm II. They believe that if Roosevelt sends a statement and they read the two together, it will reveal the unifying nature of the Bible for “Teutonic peoples.”

He employs these quotations to counter the argument that Roosevelt was not a Christian and because Roosevelt himself seldom spoke openly about his faith.
Reverend George E. Talmadge, the Rector of Christ Church in Oyster Bay, New York, provides a view of Theodore Roosevelt the parishioner. He provides a number of anecdotes about Roosevelt’s participation in Sunday services and his support of church ministries. Talmadge discusses Roosevelt’s religious roots in the Dutch Reformed Church, his work with the Boy Scouts, and the death of Quentin Roosevelt.

President Roosevelt writes an open letter to the editor of The Outlook commenting on the state of China and on missionary efforts and Christian education there. Roosevelt feels that the American people should support the efforts of missionary groups that are seeking to spread Christianity and Western education in China.
