Bourne brings particular attention to the endorsement of Captain James H. Aldrich, who notes that Alden was twice commended for courage and valor. Though William Loeb previously informed Bourne that Roosevelt could not appoint Alden, Bourne hopes the endorsements might change Roosevelt’s mind.
