Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Kermit Roosevelt

President Roosevelt writes his son Kermit about his visit to see Archie at Harvard and the clubs and places they visited. The Progressive Party has essentially disappeared and Roosevelt truly believes President Wilson and Secretary of State Bryan are the worst men to ever manage foreign affairs. Roosevelt adds that he received letters from the King of the Belgians, Albert I, and the King of Norway, Haakon VII, and that Ethel is out of the hospital.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Guy Thomas Viskniskki

Theodore Roosevelt introduces Helene Lalla Vandervelde to Guy Thomas Viskniskki. Vandervelde has been sent to the U.S. by the Belgian king. Roosevelt asks Viskniskki to give Vandervelde an interview. She can do the kind of work he desires.

TR’s return from Africa, 1910. Part 2

A second portion of a movie showing TR’s return from his African hunting trip, highlighting his time in Great Britain, and finally his reception in New York City. There are views of: 1) the funeral cortege at Windsor on May 20, 1910; identified in the processional, left to right, walking in rows are: Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany, King George V of England, and the Duke of Connaught; the Duke of Cornwall (later King Edward VIII) and Prince Albert (later King George VI); two rows of the King’s aides; King Alfonso XII of Spain, King George I of Greece, and King Haakon VII of Norway; King Manuel II of Portugal, King Frederik VIII of Denmark, and King Ferdinand I of Bulgaria; Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, King Albert I of Belgium, and Prince Yusuf Izzedin of Turkey; the Duke of Aosta, Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovitch of Russia, and Prince Sadanaru Fushimi of Japan; the Crown Prince of Rumania (later King Carol II), the Duke of Sparta (later King Constantine I of Greece), and probably Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria; Crown Prince of Serbia (later Peter I), Duke Albrecht of Wurtemberg, and Prince Henry of the Netherlands; the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the Grand Duke of Hesse, and Prince Henry of Prussia; Crown Prince George of Saxony, the Duke of Saxe-Coburg, and Prince Charles (later King Gustav VI) of Sweden; probably the Prince of Waldeck, probably Prince Tsai-tao of China, and Prince Mohammed Ali of Egypt; Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein, Prince Arthur of Connaught, and Prince Albert of Schleswig-Holstein; Prince Alexander of Battenburg; Prince George of Cumberland, and the Duke of Fife; TR is visible at the end of the procession; 2) TR’s arrival in New York City, his greeting by Mayor William J. Gaynor, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Henry Cabot Lodge, and William Loeb, his speech at the Battery, and the parade in his honor.

King Albert of Belgium visits Theodore Roosevelt’s grave

King Albert of Belgium visits Theodore Roosevelt’s grave in Youngs Memorial Cemetery, Oyster Bay, and is accompanied by his son Prince Leopold, Theodore Roosevelt Jr., and several dignitaries. Identified in the film are Brand Whitlock, Ambassador to Belgium, walking in the rear of the group, and a man who may be Joseph M. Nye walking beside King Albert. Interior title states that King Albert requested that no pictures be taken at the grave site. Film contains only shots of the King’s party walking from the grave and of Theodore Roosevelt Jr., King Albert, and an unidentified man sitting in an open car ready to depart.

Transcript of a letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Eleanor Butler Roosevelt

This typed copy of a letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Eleanor Butler Roosevelt was included in a scrapbook. The letter describes a visit from a count bearing letters from the German embassy shortly after the outbreak of World War I. A note at the bottom of the scrapbook page stated that former president Roosevelt told this story to Eleanor, and she asked him to dictate it to his secretary. Instead, he wrote it out longhand himself.
