Arthur T. Morse wrote Theodore Roosevelt during his presidency and has decided to write again regarding William H. Taft. Morse feels the Republican Party accepted Taft’s platform at the last Republican National Convention, but as soon as Taft was inaugurated, he changed course. The nomination of 1912 is between Taft and Robert M. La Follette, and unless there is a deadlock and the party turns to him, Roosevelt needs to stay out of the game and not make the same mistake he made in the last election.

D. Edwin Hawley shares his thoughts with Theodore Roosevelt regarding Roosevelt’s ability to be nominated for President at the Republican National Convention. Hawley has met Roosevelt before, has read everything Roosevelt has written, and has followed Roosevelt’s career from the beginning, so he feels confident in his assessment of Roosevelt’s ability to win the nomination if he remains calm and non-committal.

Frederick Courteny Selous apologizes to Theodore Roosevelt for not responding to his last letter, but Selous wanted to read Roosevelt’s pamphlet on coloration first, and has been very busy. He is taking the pamphlet with him to Africa to read on the ship. Selous will first stop in Paris, France to receive a medal from the French Academy of Sports in recognition of his big game hunting, and then travel with friends to Kenya. Selous would like to go back to Bahr el ghazal and study the Kob and the ways it changes color each year.

John W. Osborn enjoyed seeing Theodore Roosevelt last March, but is disappoint Roosevelt will not join him for a bear hunt in November. Osborn hopes Kermit Roosevelt might come and that Roosevelt will also come. Osborn and his wife have had another little girl making four girls and two boys in his family.

Standard of honors for the Camp Fire Club of American which lists big game animals from Africa divided into Honor and High Honor classifications. To be considered for an honor, applicants must submit proof and a committee will consider will take into consideration the difficulties overcome, any risk involved, the rarity of the species, and the location the animal was killed.

Roosevelt is confused by the cable about Frederick Albert Cook because he is unaware of who the man is or what he has accomplished. He informs Foran he and Kermit Roosevelt have had success hunting elephants and rhinoceros together, but they will soon separate to travel and hunt separately.

Secretary of Theodore Roosevelt invites Luigi Pezze to The Outlook office to speak with Theodore Roosevelt, but warns Pezze that if he intends to invite Roosevelt to any engagement, it will be a waste of time to come. Roosevelt has turned down nearly 5,000 invitations since his return from Africa and refuses to take on anything more.

Theodore Roosevelt agree with Albert S. Perkins regarding the importance of the study of Greek. Roosevelt learned Latin, but appreciates how much his son, Kermit Roosevelt, has enjoyed Greek. Though he still appreciates Latin and believes students should be given a choice between the two languages.

Frank Harper informs Doctor Curtis that Theodore Roosevelt appreciated his letter, but that Roosevelt is unable to make commitments to attend dinners. Harper also writes that Roosevelt will not be bringing back pickled or dried meats from Africa.

President Roosevelt thanks Doctor Crago for sending him a book and asks him to give the author an enclosed letter. Roosevelt writes that his trip to Africa will be “merely that of an elderly retired official.”

President Roosevelt thanks the President of The Outlook, Lawrence F. Abbott, for the proof he sent and discusses several articles of his that will be published after he leaves the Presidency. In anticipation of his trip to Africa, Roosevelt asks Abbott to open and classify the mail he receives at The Outlook office. Roosevelt also criticizes Joseph Pulitzer and various colleges for accepting support from him.
