The final verse of the refrain is about the death of Theodore Roosevelt; “Good-bye old Rough and Ready, we’ll miss you Teddy you’re the best friend we’ve ever had.” The last page features samples of two other songs, “Chong” by Harold Weeks and “Alabama Lullaby” by Cal DeVoll.

Verse three refers to Theodore Roosevelt, or “Teddy,” getting the credit for the victory at the Battle of San Juan Hill, when it was really Mister Dooley. The song is dedicated to Felix Isman and was introduced by Thomas Q. Seabrooke in The Chinese Honeymoon. The cover features photographs of actor Alexander Clark, lyricist William Jerome, and composer Jean Schwartz. The inside front cover provides the song lyrics. The back cover includes an advertisement for other “Popular Folios” from Shapiro, Bernstein and Company.

Republican Campaign Songs features twenty-one pieces by J. A. Parks in support of President Roosevelt’s 1904 presidential campaign. An announcement on the inside front cover explains that the songs were printed before the Democratic National Convention in order to meet “early demand.” As such, the songs were arranged to allow for any two-syllable name of a Democratic candidate, national or local, to be used in the appropriate places, marked by asterisks in the lyrics.

Campaign “coattail” sheet music for Aaron T. Bliss’s successful campaign for governor of Michigan. Bliss, a Republican, was a former congressman and had been a union officer. Cover features a photo of Bliss and a cartoon drawing of him riding an elephant to the state house with a crowd of veterans and others cheering him on. The back page features a lithograph portrait of President McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt with the slogan, “Let Well Enough Alone.”
