Letter from Lawrence F. Abbott to W. C. White

W. C. White’s letter to The Outlook claiming that Senator Henry Cabot Lodge is a “man in whom the public confidence is lacking” and who feels Theodore Roosevelt’s support of his reelection needs explanation was personally referred to Lawrence F. Abbott. While The Outlook and Roosevelt disagree with Lodge on some issues, there is no doubt as to his personal integrity. Abbott provides three reasons why Roosevelt supports Lodge’s reelection. These include their long friendship, Lodge’s prominent support of Congressional efforts to provide for the country’s educational and aesthetic needs, and his knowledge of foreign relations. For these last two reasons, Abbott also supports Lodge.
