Theodore Elmer White, geologist for the Midwest region of the National Park Service, responds to a request made by James B. Thompson, superintendent of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, for archaeological services. White believes that he is not qualified as he is a paleontologist by training rather than an archaeologist, and the historical objects found at the Elkhorn Ranch site are outside of his field of study. In a handwritten addendum, White writes that if Thompson insists, he will do what he can, but he still has doubts.

Jimmie L. Dunning, acting chief of the Division of Park Support, tells Superintendent Thompson of Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park that he has conferred with Dr. Wilfred D. Logan, chief of the Midwest Archaeological Center, and they will schedule a historical archaeologist to work on the Elkhorn Ranch collection soon.

Brigadier General Morris, representing the Corps of Engineers, Missouri River Division, informs the superintendent of Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park, James B. Thompson, that he will not be able to attend public meetings regarding the master plan and wilderness proposals for the park. Morris does suggest restricting visitor use of the wilderness areas to an extent that protects the wilderness value.

Acting Director of the U.S. Geological Survey Radlinski informs Theodore Roosevelt National Park Superintendent Thompson that the USGS will not be attending an upcoming hearing. Radlinski encloses a statement to be entered on the hearing record.

John F. Greenslit submits several comments on behalf of the North Dakota State Outdoor Recreation Agency to be entered into the hearing record regarding the proposed wilderness area in the Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park. The proposal has Greenslit’s support, and he believes that it will have many benefits.
