Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Basil N. Ricketts
President Roosevelt needs to know what type of position former Rough Rider Basil N. Ricketts wants to apply for before he can advise him about a vacancy or whether the job would suit him. In the meantime, Roosevelt says that he would be happy to hire Ricketts for any position that he has the training for. Ricketts may show this letter to anyone he likes.

President Roosevelt apologizes to Basil N. Ricketts, but he does not think he is able to help him get an appointment in the consular service. New York’s quota is already full, and if he is a resident of any other state he would need the backing of his senator.
