President Roosevelt tells Senator Platt that he did not understand that the Assistant Secretary of Agriculture position was so important to farmers until the National Grange objected to the appointment of G. He discusses a couple of Grange members he would have liked to appoint but for the fact that one was a Democrat and one was from Indiana.
