President Roosevelt has heard that Secretary of State Elihu Root and Secretary of Commerce and Labor Oscar S. Straus believe that the actions of Mary Mills Patrick and her associates in Constantinople are wrong. He has cabled Ambassador John George Alexander Leishman about the matter. The United States will not interfere in internal Turkish matters and will not threaten force unless it intends to use it.

Theodore Roosevelt informs Albert Bushnell Hart that he cannot attend the Buffalo meeting but will be at the Council dinner. He is pleased that Hart can visit Sagamore Hill and suggests January 2 is better than December 24 as the Roosevelt children will be at home with their friends.

Theodore Roosevelt regretfully tells Professor Albert Bushnell Hart the he will not be able to attend Harvard University’s commencement ceremonies this year. Further, Roosevelt will not be able to address the Centennial Meeting of the Antiquarian Society next year. He cannot say more about it at this time.
