Roosevelt remembers Loder as, “a first class big game hunter of the best type,” and hopes to see him while in London. Roosevelt knows so many English people already that he believes letters of introduction will be unnecessary.

Assistant Secretary of the Navy Roosevelt informs Madison Grant that it is the President, not Secretary of the Navy, who appoints people to the position Grant inquired about. While the appointments are most often made among the sons of naval officer and there are often many applicants, he promises to do what he can for young Sperry, and promises to file the papers with Grant’s letter.

Mather reviews the history of the establishment of a National Monument, the proposed bills that would previously have established a National Park, as well as some of the present difficulties surrounding the establishment of such a park.
