Charles Sumner Bird thanks Theodore Roosevelt for the letter, and agrees that he wishes Roosevelt could have seen Guy Hamilton Scull before Scull left. He explains that it may not have done any good though, as Bird already tried to have Scull rewrite the articles, but was unsuccessful. Bird is confident that anyone who reads the book will know Scull’s narrative has not been exaggerated.
