Elsie Worthington Clews Parsons sends President Roosevelt a copy of her “unhappily notorious” book, saying the outcry has been “so grotesquely clamorous” that she wants Roosevelt to know what the book really is. The negative reception of the book has shown Parsons that a “writing wife is a distinct handicap to a politician.” She apologizes for “so much personality,” but says that she has always felt Roosevelt was “something besides a President.”
