Nicholas Murray Butler has received information from a secret conference of Democratic businessmen. They have decided not to support Alton B. Parker for president as the influence of William Jennings Bryan can likely defeat any candidate. The businessmen will save their money and allow the candidate Bryan chooses to be defeated. Butler expects Parker’s support to dwindle and a dark horse candidate from the west to emerge.
