George E. Chamberlain acknowledges receipt of George B. Cortelyou’s letter regarding an act by the Oregon State Legislature to create a sailor boarding house commission in Portland. The act as originally written would have done some good, but as amended by the legislature, and with the anticipated membership of the proposed commission in league with the boarding house keepers, Chamberlain expects little positive change. Federal intervention is welcomed, and may do some good.
