George E. Matthews thought that John R. DeBarry was being treated unfairly but did not realize that Terrence Vincent Powderly was opposing DeBarry. Matthews still believes that DeBarry is right and Powderly wrong but feels that it is “bad citizenship” for him to ask President Roosevelt to intervene.
