The intersection of Theodore Roosevelt, the United States Navy, and diplomacy provides the theme for this issue of the Theodore Roosevelt Association Journal. Roosevelt’s famous injunction about “big stick” diplomacy appears on the front cover of the issue along with a caricature of Roosevelt as a battleship. The 1995 annual meeting was held onboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt. The meeting saw the conferring of the Theodore Roosevelt Association’s (TRA) Distinguished Service Medal upon Secretary of the Navy John F. Lehman and the TRA’s Junior Officer of the Year Award to a crew member of the carrier. The issue also notes the announcement of the annual Theodore and Franklin D. Roosevelt Naval History Prize, and Henry J. Hendrix, an officer on the USS Theodore Roosevelt reviews Henry Kissinger’s Diplomacy. A listing of the Secretaries of the Navy who served in Roosevelt’s administration completes the theme and the issue in the “News and Notes” section.
