Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Melville Madison Bigelow

Subject(s): Direct democracy, Recall of judicial decisions

Theodore Roosevelt appreciates Melville Madison Bigelow’s suggestion, which is more radical than his own. He does not want the legislature to have the power to override judges but to have the people decide for themselves. Roosevelt would also like a provision for the people to immediately decide on federal legislation.
