Theodore Roosevelt’s secretary sends Roosevelt’s regrets to Mrs. J. T. Hinton, as he is unable to send the message she requests. If Roosevelt were to comply in this instance, “common fairness” would compel him to comply to every similar request, and he would soon be overwhelmed by the work.
