Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to A. Howard Hopping

Subject(s): Courtesy, Etiquette, Horsemanship, Lodge, Henry Cabot, 1850-1924

President Roosevelt thanks A. Howard Hopping for his courtesy and tells him the full story referred to by Hazard. Roosevelt, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge, and Roosevelt’s orderly encountered a teenage girl on their horseback ride. Roosevelt did not think it proper that the girl was following three strange men alone close to dark, so he insisted that she take a different path from them.
