Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to the Navy Department

President Roosevelt instructs the Department of the Navy to report on the laying of telegraph wires by the Central and South American Telegraph Company. He believes the company’s request is reasonable, to lay a spare cable along the route the main cable already follows. Perhaps there are other factors to be considered, but he wants to ensure there is no “fussy and irritating interference” with their work.
