President Roosevelt confirms receipt of Secretary of the Navy Bonaparte’s letter in regards to the difficulties at the Charleston navy yard, and approves of the action he has taken.
Comments and Context
Lieutenants J. G. W. Walker and Frederic R. Harris were been transferred out of supervisory positions at the Charleston navy yard, seemingly because of political pressure from a contractor working with the United States Navy. Secretary of the Navy Bonaparte intends to revoke their transfer orders because of the case’s publicity and to protect public confidence in the Department of the Navy.
