President Roosevelt directs Clara Louise Stone Hay to have her husband, Secretary of State John Hay, rest for the summer. He is concerned by the information Hay shares about the Leishmans. Senator Philander C. Knox is his great friend and wants Ambassador John George Alexander Leishman kept on. Roosevelt asks if Hay’s informant will write a statement.
