President Roosevelt was surprised to hear talk of removing John N. Cobb from his position as Assistant Agent for the Protection of Alaskan Salmon Fisheries and reinstating John J. Coyle in that position, and informs Secretary of Commerce and Labor Metcalf that this should not be done. He asks Metcalf to inform Commissioner George Meade Bowers of this. Roosevelt also asks Metcalf to see if the salmon tax can be applied to help preserve the salmon hatcheries.
