President Roosevelt appreciates the letter from Thomas Goode Jones, United States District Court Justice of Alabama and former governor of the state. Roosevelt states that regardless of the results of the 1904 presidential election he is pleased with the work he has done with the aid of Jones. Roosevelt says that if he wins reelection he will ask Jones for assistance to “root out any evils” regarding appointments in the South and in gaining an understanding of the Southern mindset.
