Alice Roosevelt wanted Prince Henry of Prussia to make her a colonel of a lancer regiment but President Roosevelt believes her German torpedo boat namesake is “far better.” Roosevelt would be “more humiliated than amused” if he was offered an honorary membership in a foreign regiment.
