Subject(s): Bail, Detention of persons, Iglesias Pantín, Santiago, 1872-1939, Labor leaders, Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico Governor Hunt informs George B. Cortelyou that Santiago Iglesias Pantín was attempting to leave the island to avoid trial after having failed to appear in criminal court three times. Iglesias Pantín is charged with conspiring to raise the price of labor, and one death has occurred in riots attributed to his agitation. Hunt will ask for his bail to be reduced, but notes that the court is reluctant due to Iglesias Pantín’s dangerous character and bad record.
