Ambassador Henry Lane Wilson was absent from Mexico at the time of Theodore Roosevelt’s proposed visit, so he is not sorry that Roosevelt ended up not being able to accept his invitation. He hopes to be able to welcome Roosevelt some other time, suggesting possibly that Roosevelt could deliver a Fourth of July address to the Americans in Mexico. Wilson believes that President Taft’s recent action in sending troops to the Rio Grande river was warranted.
