Letter from John R. Van Wormer to Theodore Roosevelt

John R. Van Wormer, trustee of the Holland Society of New York, is chairing a committee to put up a tablet in honor of the Dutchman Baron Joan Derk Van der Capellen, who was a friend to the United States during the Revolution. He will travel to Zwolle in the Netherlands as chair of the committee and as a representative of the society in New York, and would like to read a letter from President Roosevelt on the occasion. He notes that a letter from George Washington to Van der Capellen is in a museum in Zwolle, and would like Roosevelt’s letter to join it. He asks Roosevelt to write the letter. Van Wormer also wants to meet Roosevelt for lunch and talk with Secretary of State Elihu Root personally about this matter.
