Excerpts from a trove of letters between Marion Morrison King and Edith Kermit Roosevelt and four letters from Theodore Roosevelt to President William McKinley are supplemented by a commencement speech by John A. Gable, five quotations from Theodore Roosevelt, and the recollections of Christina Rainsford who witnessed the events surrounding Theodore Roosevelt’s summons to Buffalo, New York in September 1901. Gable also reviews David McCullough’s Mornings on Horseback.

Gable’s detailed account of the Association’s work during 1978. Articles about the opening of Bulloch Hall in Roswell, Georgia and a report from the committee working to create an updated genealogy of the Roosevelt family create a theme for the issue. Theodore Roosevelt reenactor Bob Boyd tells the story of his four year stint portraying the President in programs across the county, and the seventy-fifth anniversary of the invention of the Teddy bear is noted in a three paragraph article.

Gable’s The Bull Moose Years: Theodore Roosevelt and the Progressive Party. Each of those articles draws on reviews found in major newspapers, magazines, and historical journals. 

 

This issue also has articles on the attempted assassination of Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 and on Franklin D. Roosevelt’s invocation of his distant cousin to further his own political career and causes.
