Taft’s trip to the west coast that did not go well and feels that he is not going to be re-elected as the Republican candidate for the upcoming presidential election. Earl guesses that William Jennings Bryan will be the next president, but expresses his hopes on Roosevelt winning the presidency if he decided to run again.

Edwin T. Earl writes to Theodore Roosevelt to ask that Roosevelt not allow reactionaries crowds use his name in their plans. Earl explains that the reactionary crowd is trying to secure William H. Taft’s nomination in the next election so he can be defeated by a reactionary Democrat. Earl regrets that Henry L. Stimson accepted an appointment in Taft’s cabinet. Earl also enclosed an Associated Press article.

The Y. M. C. A. in Los Angeles is campaigning for half a million dollars to put toward extension work and facilities maintenance. Edwin T. Earl wired Theodore Roosevelt on May 20 asking for a statement to be read at a banquet about the organization’s character and citizenship. Earl and the rest of the organization were disappointed that Roosevelt did not send this message over, and request a statement again to be published in the local newspapers.
