Ambrose Agius, papal delegate to Manila, writes to James Gibbons, archbishop of Baltimore, detailing the issues being investigated by the Military Board regarding the Catholic Church’s claims for damages to church property during the Spanish-American Ward and during the recent conflict in the Philippines. Agius explains how the amount repaid to the church was decreased, and describes William H. Taft’s involvement in this. Agius also discusses the Tariff Bill and how it may affect their financial situation.
