Lyman Abbott has passed on President Roosevelt’s letter to his son Lawrence F. Abbott, who will write a paragraph about it. Lyman is very interested in the campaign, although he wishes that Republicans would make more speeches about their overall program, because he is not sure that people are aware that it has changed. He is planning on writing a piece discussing this in The Outlook.

After visiting the military academies at Annapolis and West Point, Lyman Abbott lists his views on the religious buildings and services available to students. He believes the Young Men’s Christian Association should have a house on West Point’s campus for voluntary religious work and would like Congress to give the academies money to pay for these resources. He wishes for Mott to pass his thoughts on to whoever at the association could be made aware of this.

Abbott suggests that after his current term expires Roosevelt might consider an even larger role as Assistant Editor. Abbott understands that Roosevelt is on vacation at Oyster Bay, but he wants Roosevelt to know that he has not forgotten about the matter and would be willing to visit him there at any time.

Lyman Abbott tells President Roosevelt about his visit to Puerto Rico. He compliments the work that Governor Beekman Winthrop and his wife are doing. Abbott visited schools guided by the Assistant Superintendent, Everett W. Lord. Abbott was favorably impressed with Lord’s ideas on education for Puerto Rico. He suggests that if the current superintendent, Roland P. Falkner, is about to resign, Roosevelt check Lord’s record and consider appointing him Superintendent of Education. Winthrop, Regis Henri Post, and Lord all agree that federal aid to education in Puerto Rico is important.
