Smithsonian

The Smithsonian Institution was founded in 1846 as the United States’ National Museum. Reorganized in 1967, it has come to encompass a massive complex, consisting of many museums, education and research centers, in Washington, D. C. as well as Virginia, Maryland, and New York.
