Bailey in keeping Senator William Lorimer in the Senate, notes Lorimer’s political alliance with Bailey in opposition to Canadian reciprocity, and mentions the political corruption and bribery Lorimer has been accused of which led to his election. The second looks at the creation of the Rice Institute, which was created using funds provided for in the will of William Marsh Rice. While construction of the institution is taking a long time, it is being built for the future, and will be a great place of learning.

After hearing that Theodore Roosevelt is planning to speak at Occidental College during his upcoming trip to California, Finis E. Yoakum invites him to address the people at his “Pisgah Home” about progressive Christianity. Yoakum informs Roosevelt that he is an older brother of B. F. Yoakum, whom Roosevelt knows well.

Letter from Charles A. Prouty to Theodore Roosevelt

Interstate Commerce Commissioner Prouty believes that the federal government should not establish interstate commerce rates at this time. Some states would bitterly stand against President Roosevelt should he change these policies. States in the South and West, in particular, are confident that the states are already charging fair rates and the national government will increase those rates.
